ISO 21127:2023 has been released
We are pleased to announce that the ISO 21127:2023 standard is now published on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) website.This new version replaces that of 2014 and increases usability of the model through:
- supporting logical foundations of the model;
- supporting interoperability with other domain-relevant standards;
- providing more robust documentation on the model, its foundational concepts, and its use;
- ensuring clarity and readability of documentation.
This new version positions CIDOC CRM as a valid interface for Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards for geographic information systems (GIS) that enable geospatial and spatiotemporal reasoning. In addition, this new version supports chronological reasoning which is a central component of heritage research.
The content defined in ISO 21127:2023 corresponds to that of CIDOC CRM community version 7.1.3. Please note that some contextual information is only available in the ISO version. The template of the ISO version is also different from the community version. ISO 21127:2023 is a distinct product from CIDOC CRM community version 7.1.3.
This update is the result of effective collaboration between the ISO - Information and documentation - Technical interoperability committee (ISO/TC 46/SC 4) and the CIDOC CRM Special Interest Group (CIDOC CRM SIG) on behalf of the International Council of Museums - International Committee for Documentation (ICOM CIDOC), facilitated by Philippe Michon and Erin Canning.
If you have any questions about the ISO 21127 update, please do not hesitate to write to the ISO/TC 46/SC 4/21127:2023 Project Managers at philippe.michon@pch.gc.ca and erin.canning@eng.ox.ac.uk.
Best regards,
