New Scope note:

An object identifier is a code assigned by a person or organisation to a physical object in order to identify it uniquely within the context of one or more organizations over a certain period of time. This class is intended primarily for museum identification numbers, such as object numbers, inventory numbers, registration numbers or accession numbers. (Note that the identification of the acquisition event is sometimes mistaken for the identification of the acquired objects themselves). An object identifier may be created prior to an assignment and never be used. It may come out of use, and, by chance, it may be reused for another object. It is typically an alphanumeric sequence, often encoding some meaning like year of acquisition etc.
